Camping Tips for The Gorge
These tips are based on general knowledge of The Gorge Amphitheatre environment, not official Bass Canyon policy.
- Arrive early on Wednesday. Campgrounds open at 1 PM and fill up. The earlier you arrive the better your spot and the more time you have to set up before the heat of the afternoon hits.
- Bring a canopy and shade cloths. There is almost no natural shade in the campground. The August sun in eastern Washington is intense from mid-morning through late afternoon.
- Heavy duty tent stakes are non-negotiable. The wind at The Gorge is serious and constant. Standard stakes will not hold. Bring screw-in ground anchors or extra long heavy stakes and a mallet.
- Pack for cold nights. Daytime temperatures can reach 90 to 100°F but nights drop to around 50°F. You will need warm layers for every night.
- Bring a wheeled cart. The walk from your car to your campsite can be significant depending on your spot. A wagon or wheeled cart makes hauling gear much easier.
- A tall light-up flag or solar string lights are essential. Finding your campsite in the dark after a long night is harder than you expect at The Gorge.
- Download the Bass Canyon app before you go. Cell service on the drive in can be spotty. Have the festival map and schedule downloaded before you lose signal.
