What is Aftershock
Aftershock is one of the premier rock and metal festivals in the United States, held every fall in Sacramento, California. Produced by Danny Wimmer Presents, it draws from the same roster of heavy music that powers Louder Than Life in Louisville while bringing a distinct West Coast energy and setting. The 2026 edition runs October 1 to 4 across five stages at Discovery Park, where the American and Sacramento Rivers meet at the edge of downtown Sacramento.
The lineup covers the full spectrum of hard music. On one end Tool and Queens of the Stone Age headline Sunday with Danny Elfman and AFI filling out a day that leans atmospheric and artistic. On the other end Limp Bizkit and Wu-Tang Clan anchor Friday with Public Enemy and Cypress Hill, making Friday one of the most genre-diverse days on any major festival lineup. My Chemical Romance headlines Thursday. Pierce the Veil headlines Saturday. Four very different headliners for four very different days.
Discovery Park is a 302-acre public park adjacent to Interstate 5 in downtown Sacramento. It is a genuine outdoor festival site with river views and tree cover, not a parking lot or fairgrounds. The setting is a significant part of the Aftershock experience and worth planning around, particularly for transportation since there is no on-site parking for general attendees.
The Venue
Discovery Park sits where the American River meets the Sacramento River, adjacent to Interstate 5 in downtown Sacramento. Fans enter on the north side at the Garden Highway entrance or the south side at the Jibboom Street entrance. The park is large enough to accommodate five stages across the four day run.
The park setting means no on-site parking except for ADA. Most non-ADA attendees arrive by shuttle, bike, rideshare, or on foot from nearby walk-in parking lots. This is one of the most important logistics facts about Aftershock and it changes how you plan your day more than almost anything else. Plan your transportation before you plan anything else.
No re-entry for most ticket holders. Standard GA and VIP passes do not allow re-entry once you are inside for the day. Capital Club pass holders and JamPack Hotel plus Admission package holders have daily re-entry privileges. Plan your full day before you walk through the gate. Source: official Aftershock FAQ.
Getting There
Transportation to Aftershock requires more planning than most festivals because there is no general on-site parking at Discovery Park. The options are shuttle, bike, rideshare, or walk-in from nearby lots.
Park and Ride Shuttle from Cal Expo
The official and most convenient option is the Park and Ride Shuttle from Cal Expo at 1600 Exposition Blvd in Sacramento. Shuttle passes are sold separately per person per day and are not included with any camping or festival pass. Each shuttle rider needs their own pass. Source: official Aftershock getting here page.
| Shuttle Pass | Price (all-in) |
|---|---|
| 4-Day Park and Ride Shuttle Pass | $138 |
| Thursday Shuttle Pass | $48 |
| Friday Shuttle Pass | $48 |
| Saturday Shuttle Pass | $48 |
| Sunday Shuttle Pass | $48 |
Shuttles begin service approximately 60 minutes before gates open each day. Service runs continuously throughout the day with limited runs between 5:30PM and 8:30PM on Thursday and Sunday, and 6:30PM and 9:30PM on Friday and Saturday. Shuttles run approximately 75 minutes after the festival ends each night. Accessible shuttle services are available at all times for paid shuttle pass holders. Bike Valet
Discovery Park sits along the Jedediah Smith Bike Trail and arriving by bike is encouraged. Aftershock has partnered with Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates to provide a complimentary bike valet on-site. The valet accepts bikes, skateboards, and scooters and is staffed throughout the entire event. The bike valet opens approximately 90 minutes before gates open each day. Source: official Aftershock getting here page.
Rideshare
Rideshare pickup and drop-off is available but the pickup zone at the end of the night is on the Jibboom Street side of the park, not the Garden Highway entrance. Exit the venue on the Jibboom Street side, cross the Jibboom Street Bridge, follow the bike path under the I-5 overpass to your left, and the rideshare zone will be on your right near 500 Bercut Drive. Source: official Aftershock getting here page.
Know your exit before the headliner ends. The rideshare zone is on the Jibboom Street side. If you exit from the wrong side at the end of the night you will be far from your pickup. Check the map before the festival so you know which direction to walk when the crowd starts moving.
Walk-In Parking
Limited paid parking in designated lots surrounding the park is available to purchase closer to the event. Lots are accessible via Truxel Road and Mill Creek Drive or West El Camino Avenue and Natomas Park Drive and are approximately a 20 minute walk from the festival. All lots open at 10AM daily. The festival does not manage these lots. Overnight parking is prohibited. Source: official Aftershock getting here page.
ADA Parking
Limited ADA parking is available at the event for a daily fee, card only, first-come, first-served. A valid state-issued Disabled Person Parking placard, permit, or license plate plus proof it belongs to you is required. Note that vehicles in the accessible lot will be held in place until pedestrian traffic has cleared at the end of each night, which can be up to 45 minutes. No exceptions. Where to Stay
Aftershock camping is at Cal Expo, not at Discovery Park. Cal Expo is a separate facility at 1600 Exposition Blvd in Sacramento. Campers need to purchase shuttle passes separately to get between Cal Expo and the festival each day. That shuttle pass cost is in addition to the camping pass and festival ticket.
For hotel attendees, downtown Sacramento puts you close to the Garden Highway entrance and gives you access to Sacramento's restaurants and Old Sacramento waterfront during non-festival hours. Hotels along the Capitol Mall corridor and in Midtown Sacramento are well-positioned for the festival.

Insider Tips
There is no general on-site parking at Discovery Park. The Park and Ride Shuttle from Cal Expo is the primary way most people get there. Shuttle passes sell separately per person per day. Buy them when you buy your festival pass so you are not scrambling closer to the event.
Rideshare pickup is on the Jibboom Street side of the park, not the main Garden Highway entrance. Exit south, cross the Jibboom Street Bridge, follow the bike path under the I-5 overpass, and the pickup zone is near 500 Bercut Drive. Knowing this before you need it saves significant time and frustration at the end of the night.
Discovery Park sits along the Jedediah Smith Bike Trail and the free bike valet run by Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates makes arriving by bike genuinely practical. If you are staying nearby and have a bike this is the fastest and cheapest way to get in and out each day.
Limp Bizkit, Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Insane Clown Posse, and $uicideboy$ on the same day is not a standard rock festival lineup. Friday is the most genre-diverse day by a significant margin. If you are only attending certain days factor that in when choosing which pass to buy.
Unlike Louder Than Life where campers get re-entry, at Aftershock the only non-hotel path to daily re-entry is the Capital Club pass. If leaving and returning matters to you the Capital Club pass is worth considering versus camping at Cal Expo with a separate shuttle pass requirement.
If you are camping at Cal Expo, your camping pass does not include shuttle access to the festival. Every camper needs to purchase a separate shuttle pass per person per day to get between Cal Expo and Discovery Park. Budget for this when calculating the total cost of camping.
Four days of rock and metal at volume. High fidelity earplugs let you hear the music clearly while protecting your hearing. They are on the allowed items list and the difference across four days is real. Bring a backup pair.
Early October in Sacramento often runs warm during the day. The park setting has some tree cover but afternoons can still be sunny and in the 80s. Non-aerosol sunscreen is on the allowed list and worth packing. Evenings cool down noticeably so a light layer for the late headliner sets is worth having.
What to Pack
Aftershock has a clear bag requirement, no re-entry for most ticket holders, and no on-site parking. Everything you need for the full day comes in with you on the first entry. Pack to the bag policy and plan for Sacramento October weather.
- Approved bag: A clear hip pack, clear small backpack up to 12x6x12 inches, or small crossbody up to 4.5x6.5 inches. Going with just a hip pack gets you through security fastest.
- One factory-sealed water bottle (20 oz max) or one empty plastic refillable bottle: No Hydroflasks, Yetis, or metal containers. Refill stations are available inside.
- Non-aerosol sunscreen: October in Sacramento can still mean real afternoon sun. No aerosol cans permitted.
- Light layer for the evening: October evenings in Sacramento cool off noticeably. A light hoodie in your bag gives you options for the late headliner sets.
- High fidelity earplugs: Four days of metal at volume. Bring a backup pair.
- Small portable charger: A full day drains your phone. Keep it small enough for your approved bag.
- Shuttle pass confirmed before you leave: No shuttle pass means no easy way to the festival. Confirm yours is purchased and accessible before you head to Cal Expo.
- Comfortable shoes: Five stages across a large park means a lot of walking. Wear shoes you already trust.
- ID: Required for alcohol purchases.
- Cash: Some vendors may prefer it.
- Official app downloaded and set up: Do this before you lose reliable signal inside the grounds.
